What is Friends of Spyder?

John Gregory originally had the idea of having Club Spyder, years ago somewhere in the 1990’s and possibly earlier.. Since the event of the local Warragul Breakfast Club, many people have at times returned to Spyder Automobiles to have minor jobs carried out, pick up or drop off their cars. To add to this, there have times in the past 3 years where a group of us have gone for drives and finished off with lunch! The number of people has varied as has the distance we have travelled. This, as a concept has been developing and, recently the idea of Friends of Spyder has become a serious project! The intention of Friends of Spyder, is to expand on the already existing friends and client drives! The plan is to make this more formalized, while still being an informal group. We will visit places of interest, drive to a location for lunch, and possibly one full weekend drive annually! To add to this other possibilities are workshop days, where we can have something like a day where people can look under their cars, have tech talks, possibly have guests to give a talk, and even Go Kart days at Stony Creek. To make this more interesting to participants I welcome suggestions as to activities, routes and destinations. Please email these and your intention to join our group to spyder@spyderautomobiles.com.au Please send your confirmation of interest so we can email details of events to you from this email group to keep it confidential

Friends of spyder first time out

Well our first drive day has been and gone. We had 10 cars, and 15 people, eventually attend! Apart from the cold we had very good weather and conditions. After a later than planned start we arrived in Willow Grove for coffee and a chat then on to Walhalla. We spent some time looking around the town, which has a permanent population of 20, yes 20, and was only connected to the power mains in 1998! Most of us had breakfast and coffee and we returned the way we had gone, the only problem we had was a Motorbike that was overtaking another over a crest, he and I were looking face to face at each other! Fortunately there was enough space to move out of his way! The rest of the day was uneventful but, much fun, was had by all! See in our blog: Here

Friends of spyder drive 2

We had the 2nd Friends of spyder Drive today on the same day as the change over to Daylight saving time! What a great idea that was, the same person who set the day and route also slept in! Fortunately there were not many going and my embarrassment was limited to being amongst friends! there was only the 4 of us this time but joining us this time was john Carter from South Australia he had come over with Julie’s E46 325CI for service. we travelled through areas of the Yarra Valley, it’s towns and roads. We stopped off for coffees and food at different locations and enjoyed the beautiful day of clear blue skies and 30 degrees! a couple swapped cars for a short time and John was taken for a drive in his old 911! it was the first time in 20 years he had seen or been in it, so it was quite a day for him! As we all went in our own directions to head home John left for home as well, with the longest trip home I am sure he will be thinking of the day for a while yet! See in our blog: Here

friends of spyder drive 3

Well today was the 3rd drive day for Friends of Spyder. Most of the group met at Tooradin for a start at 8.00 am, a small group made their way through to Lang Lang then Drouin South, Poowong, Korumburra and the back roads to Meeniyan where they met the highway again and into Stony Creek Go Karts. By this time the numbers had swelled along the way as a few joined along the way or at the venue. Our numbers had grown and Billy, Andrew, Lorena and I brought the karts over with us and got in some practice. In all we had 12 and we had a really good day both at the Karts and the drive to arrive!
